Israel-based designer Hilla Shamia has created this contemporary line of wood and aluminum pieces that effortlessly blends fine furniture and modern art. Shamia uses a technique that disperses liquid aluminium into a cast and throughout the woods natural cracks.
“The negative factor of burnt wood is transformed into aesthetic and emotional value by preservation of the natural form of the tree trunk, within explicit boundaries. The general, squared form intensifies the artificial feeling, and at the same time keeps the memory of the material.”
This technique capitalises on the woods natural imperfections transforming them into alluring attributes balancing the beauty of raw nature and sleek refined metal. The contrast of the aluminium and wood in both colour and texture make these products as beautiful as they are interesting. This Casting collection has been nominated for the 2013 German Design Award.
