Minimalistic wallets have become the must have male accessory. Gone are the days of the hamburger in your back pocket with every receipt you’ve ever acquired and your laser zone members club card circa 1998.
Von Vantage minimalistic wallets popped onto our radar last month via a Tumblr inspiration session so we got in touch with the gents to see if they looked as good in the flesh as they did on the web.
Soon enough a package arrived at our door from Canada and we were mighty impressed with the contents. The brand currently produces two wallets, the Arkän and the PÅÅLM, each offering a minimal design, a functional flap to secure your cash and the ability to hold either 6 or 8 cards.
First things first, these wallets are extremely well priced – that’s even before noting the quality of construction, which is excellent. To give you an indication I have a similar product from WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie (which are made in China), it’s over double the price and is held together with a single stitch around the edges. The Von Vantage leather is thicker, the stitching is thicker and doubled over for added durability, the design is more functional and it’s made by hand – for $65 CAD or $66 AUD.
What I love most about the wallet is the notes flap, it’s simple and functional and shows these guys have put a lot of time and effort into the design of their products. The flap saves you folding your notes up and tucking them into your card holder which can stretch the leather and cause added bulk. Unfortunately our Australian notes are a little wide to tuck the whole way down into the flap but it still holds them in place perfectly.
Von Vantage have created a seriously beautiful, simple and well designed product. If you’re in the market for a new wallet I couldn’t recommend them enough!
