One particular boat that caught our eye at the 2012 Boat Show was the VanDutch 40, an ultra modern craft making a serious statement – perfect for Sydney Harbour. Unfortunately we were pressed for time and didn’t have a chance to jump on board but from what we could see it was the perfect summer boat, large open entertaining areas mixed with just enough cabin space to justify a 40 foot purchase.
Conceptualised by prestigious international designer Frank Mulder, the boat combines the perfect synergy between speed and functionality. Both hull and deck are vacuum-bagged fibreglass with Kevlar reinforcements at critical stress points. The result is a solid, reliable boat that’s light, agile on the waves, quiet and vibration-free. It has an Esthec deck that is not only very clean and linear due to hideaway deck hardware, but also superbly elegant and traditional.
The boat is propelled by twin 480hp Yanmar engines to a top speed just shy of 50 knots. In the cabin you’ll find a hydraulic table with space for 8 which can be electronically lowered to form a large bed, a bathroom with toilet and you’re standard equipment including TV, Air Con, Fridge and Nespresso Machine.
Red Bull used 10 VanDutch 40’s in Monaco as tenders for it’s high profile guests during race weekend because they felt it fitted there brand and their F1 team perfectly – an innovative and amazing machine. They start at $825,000 and we obviously want one.
