UV House by OASI Architects is a minimalist home located in Varese, Italy. The clients, a young professional couple, required a conversion of an old industrial building into a modern urban dwelling.
The brief was to create a new floor within the shell of the existing building to accommodate new bedrooms. OASI set out to preserve the power of the void that space suggested to them by adding a floating slab, set into the existing walls that kept the huge void under it. Made from concrete, the modern addition was positioned in the middle of the existing shell, maintaining aspects of the original building and delivering a new floor with two bedrooms and two bathrooms plus a patio garden at the front entrance and a double height living room at the rear of the house.
