For those of you that haven’t already noticed there’s something serious going on inside the old Gowing’s building on George St. It’s been roughly 20 years since Sydney has seen the opening any new luxury hotels and never has the city seen a true ‘design’ orientated marque. Well gentlemen this is all about to change as we are pleased to announce the opening of the sophisticated new QT Sydney next month. Suffice to say, this hotel will be the destination of choice for The Versatile Gent.
Much of the hotel pays homage to the buildings rich history. The lower levels of the building have remained unchanged, featuring important historic fittings and fixtures – such as original stone cladding, gargoyles, facade detail, original timber floors and retail showcases that have been damaged over decades, have been carefully restored. Most luxury hotels are designed with one common theme however the QT’s 200 guest rooms are presented in 12 unique styles, most equipped with a signature oversized bathtub and shower, and unique design pieces, again referencing the buildings past. The restaurant, Gowings Bar & Grill is brought to you by the gentlemen behind Icebergs and Neild Avenue and features a wine list by Five Way Cellars Ian Cook which our resident wine columnist Michael assures will be suitably impressive.
What we’re looking forward to the most is the barber shop in the hotels spa called spaQ – focusing on the gentleman, providing cut throat shaves and the type of pampering the modern man desires. Naturally we’re looking forward to following our barbershop session with a single malt in the late night bar, Gilt Lounge where we will most certainly be regular habitants.
