TVG was at the TAG Heuer Flagship store in Sydney last night for a first look at the brand’s 2017 Baselworld releases including the Connected Modular 45 and the Autavia reissue.
Whether you’re into Smartwatches or not, the Connected Modular 45 is undoubtedly an interesting piece of kit. Essentially customers can purchase an endless selection of modular components in a variety of materials and finishes and then customise their own watch, including customising the dial, hands, and indices on the smartwatch face (rather than simply selecting a dial of choice from a pre-installed selection. Categorised into modules (watch heads), straps and lugs, the user has the ability to swap out the smartwatch unit and replace it with an automatic unit to escape the connectivity. You can check out the range here.
Having been a fan of vintage Heuer for many years, I was especially keen to get my hands on the Autavia reissue. It’s certainly a nice piece of kit, albeit a tad bigger than I’d ideally have it. It’s also very shiny, which doesn’t come across in images online. Based on the Autavia Ref. 2446 released back in 1966 the new model features a 42mm case, as opposed to the original 39mm. On the wrist, it seems to wear a little larger than 42mm due to its rather thick case and wide black bezel but I’m a big fan of the dial and Heuer-02 calibre movement with 80-hour power reserve. I suspect we’ll be seeing a few on wrists very soon!
