Product marketing is getting insane. In the last two to three years the amount of budget and the level of creativity and quality associated with marketing luxury products has reached an all time high. Brands like Johnnie Walker, Jaguar and BMW have set standards others can only dream of and this new video by Johnnie Walker Blue Label in partnership with Mr Porter is nothing short of sublime.
Filmed in the British Virgin Islands, we see Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini sitting on what could only be described as the nicest yacht ever made, sharing a neat Blue Label whisky. Law’s character announces his desire to own the yacht through an unusual wager with Giannini’s character and then devotes the majority of film to pulling it off in spectacular fashion. Whilst it’s assumed that both men ‘have it all’ it does seem a little confusing until the end when the story is tied together back on the gorgeous yacht (I won’t ruin the ending!).
At the conclusion of the film it’s clear that Law and Giannini are after one thing (aside from the boat), a truly rare and unique experience – much like the whiskies that make up the Johnnie Walker Blue blend.
Commenting on his role and involvement in the film, Law says:
“The film is about improvement and progress and this is something I try to do in my work and my everyday life. I had to learn new skills shooting this film and that combined with the places we visited and shot in, alongside working with Jake and with Giancarlo, made it a truly rare experience.”
