Of all the watches unveiled at SIHH 2018, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra Thin 15202IP is the one that got me most excited.
Perhaps you need to be as enthusiastic about the 15202 Jumbo as I am to truly appreciate how cool this boutique only release is. For both lovers and collectors of the Audemars Piguet brand, the Extra-Thin Royal Oak in Steel is a must have, so naturally releasing a true to size Titanium version with Platinum links and polished Platinum bezel with a limited run of 250 pieces was going to make everyone weak at the knees.
Like the 15400ST and 15202ST, the new model features the ultra-desirable, and unjustifiably expensive, navy blue ‘Tapisserie’ dial, but this time they’ve ‘smoked’ it – an unprecedented move from the manufacturer. The end result is a moodier blue which contrasts brilliantly with the polished Platinum bezel and white gold indices.
With nothing but some new materials and a slightly darker navy dial, the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra Thin Ref.15202IP is the epitome of Malibu Stacy in a new hat, and not a single person cares. Nor does anyone care that it’s ludicrously expensive at US$34,800. They’ll sell them all in a heartbeat and they’ll be one of the most sought-after timepieces on the planet, forever.
