On the Friday in Melbourne whilst in M.J. Bale, Tommy Bick asked us what we had planned for the evening. Something at Crown we said, a place called 23 I think. He chuckled, ‘well that’ll be good’.
After suiting up we descended on Crown casino in search of Club 23 and let me tell you it was a search. Moet were hosting the Pre Derby Day bash to celebrate their long standing relationship with Australian racing. Among us were a host of racing royalty with the evening MC’d by Emma Freedman, the daughter of 5 time Melbourne Cup winning trainer, Lee Freedman. The spread was quite unbelievable, the club itself is quite a spectacle featuring in house gambling tables, a huge central bar and generous balcony with sweeping views of the river. The place was decked head to toe in Moet. All Moet everything and as you could imagine the drink list wasn’t long – Moet or mineral water! The Moet flowed as we drank from the gold cups and discussed racing with a number of Melbourne based chaps, one of whom’s family (who made a small empire out of selling swiss watches!) had numerous horses racing in the carnival including the cup.
Even though we lost a significant amount of cash to the female Blackjack dealer who could have only been cheating, we’d like to thank Boris de Vroomen and the team at Moet Hennessy Australia for a cracking night at Club 23 and we look forward to sampling the new Moet Ice which launches around Australia in selected bars and clubs in the coming weeks.
