Christmas will come early for Panerai fans across the world when auction house Artcurial holds its second themed sale on Monday the 8th of Dec. The Panerai Only auction at Artcurial features one hundred lots from the 1930s through to the present day and will be catering for all budgets (estimates between €2,000 to €80,000) and will focus on rare dive watches, limited editions and collectible models in Platinum and White Gold.
It has taken more than a year for the Artcurial team to compile the list of legendary models that retrace 80 years of watchmaking history with 15 models to be auctioned from one private collection. Artcurial will be exhibiting highlight pieces from the Panerai Only auction in Paris this week from the 4th to 7th of December.
The sale, divided into three sections, « Vintage » watches (1930-1950), « pré-Vendôme » (1993-1997), and « Vendôme » (1997 to present day) and features highlights such as:
RADIOMIR, EGYPTIAN, Circa 1956
This particular model was supplied to the Egyptian navy in 1956 and featured a special rotating bezel, which, for the first time, could calculate the length of time spent under water. Over the last 12 years, just 5 of these models have come up for sale at auction.
The PAM021 from the « Vendôme » period (1997 to present day) was the first Panerai model in platinum with a Rolex movement numbered 30/60. It was a limited edition of 60 examples to commemorate 60 years since the first order delivered to the Italian navy, after the first ten prototypes of 1936.
PANERAI RADIOMIR 1940 by Rolex
Ever wondered why vintage Panerai Radiomir watches end up at vintage Rolex get togethers? Because once upon a time Rolex supplied the movement, case and crown for Panerai watches. This is one of the first Radiomir models issued to the Italian Navy in the late 30’s, early 40’s – highly sought after and estimated to sell above €80,000.
