Walking into the OVOLO Hotel Woolloomooloo is an experience in itself! Located at Woolloomooloo wharf, its entrance flows from the street into a reception area flanked by ornamental trees with funky lighting, while staff greet you wearing classy uniforms bursting with bright colours.
Formally the Blue Hotel, OVOLO took over the space late last year and, without closing the hotel, went about a series of refurbishments, rebuilds and redesigns that bridge the gap perfectly between heritage and modern luxury. There’s a quirky, lightheartedness to the whole hotel that is well complimented by a 5-star service and some fantastic inclusions.
We spent the night in the City-Voo room, a loft-style setup with great views looking west over the marina and beyond to the Sydney CBD. The room is spacious with a suitably large lounge area and small dining table downstairs, while upstairs houses a very comfortable king bed with minimally styled ensuite. One of the many great inclusions throughout a stay at the OVOLO is the free mini bar (re-stocked every day) for all guests. What better way to settle into an overnight stay than cracking an icy-cold beer, checking some emails and gazing over the city?
In addition to the wonderfully stocked mini-bar, OVOLO offers its guests complimentary drinks and canapés from 5-7pm every night in the main bar. Not only great for the wallet, but this service also makes the hotel lobby/bar a buzz of activity every evening of the week and the perfect opportunity to meet some fellow guests, liaise with friendly bar staff, or simply refuel before heading out for the evening.
Beyond the service and inclusions, you can’t stay at the OVOLO without noticing the incredible interior design and styling of the hotel. Everything has been carefully considered, from the artwork to ornaments, to lighting and the dozens of styled chairs and lounges. I couldn’t walk two meters without framing another instagram shot. There’s a huge variety in the colour and design throughout the hotel, but as a whole, the collection works wonderfully. It’s inviting, it’s quirky and it’s different – just what the Sydney hotel market needed!
Whether you’re travelling to Sydney for work or pleasure, or simply want to spoil a loved one with a night or two in town, the new OVOLO Hotel Woolloomooloo has to be high on your consideration list. With its fun vibe and fresh look, it’s offering a great alternative to the big name hotels at a very competitive price.
