Aston Martin’s have never been affordable but christ if you owned a DB5 at some point of your life and sold it, you’d struggle to look at their value now.
The Aston Martin DB5 is perhaps the most famous car in the world, made especially desirable by its affiliation with the world’s most famous spy, James Bond, appearing in 7 films in various forms.
This 1964 ASTON MARTIN DB5 (Chassis number: DB5/1552/R Engine number: 400/1559) is set to go under the hammer at the Mossgreen May Auction in Sydney with a guide price of 1.5-1.6 million AUD plus a 17.5% Buyer’s Premium and GST. Bringing the total price of the car, if it sells at $1.6 million, to $2.04 million.
This 1964 factory right hand drive Aston Martin DB5 was delivered to its first owner, F.B.Beard of Shrewsbury, Shropshire in the UK on 22nd May 1964, with the registration number FBB1. Now finished in James Bond’s paint colour of choice, Silver Birch – original body colour was Caribbean Pearl. Its original interior trim was Connolly Vaumol hide, in dark blue as it is now. By the late 1980s this DB5 had been brought to Australia. Recent work that has been carried out includes:
• New carpets, interior trim and boot trim
• New sunroof covering
• New front windscreen and windscreen rubbers
• Rims stripped and reconditioned
• New muffler and flex on exhaust system
• New tachometer
• Carburettors and fuel pump rebuilt
• New modified motors fitted to the electric windows
• New boot, bonnet and trim rubbers fitted
Significant work was also carried out in the early 1990s which is supported by original documentation. This Aston Martin DB5 is accompanied by a copy of its original build sheet from Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd, supplied by Aston Martin factory appointed agents, Aston Service Dorset.
Oh and it comes unregistered so you’ll you’ll need to cover $79,100 worth of Stamp Duty in NSW and whatever ghastly amount Insurance is!
If the DB5 is a tad out of your league there’s a host of other great marques on offer. Check them out here.
