Hump day wine down

“Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.”

Ernest Hemingway

Over the following weeks, months and possibly years I want to take you on a journey into the heart of wine country so that I can share a few stories and hints about what makes wine so special and why it must be understood by all the versatile gentlemen out there.

I am delighted to shed light on a topic in which I am so passionate about and have a keen interest in. Wine is one of the most sophisticated and yet simple beverages known to man. It has been written about for centuries and its subtleties and complexities are still being explored and appreciated today. Wine has been around since the dawn of mankind and is synonymous with celebrations, gatherings, solitude, romance and joy!

Over recent years my understanding and appreciation has expanded exponentially and I feel that it’s only fair to share this information with like-minded people. A pleasure shared is a pleasure doubled!

Allow me to share with you my first ever experience with wine. This story in itself is enough to rekindle hope for people who believe that wine is not for them!

I was 10 years old and it was Christmas lunch 1998. My uncle insisted on me finishing a glass of wine in an inappropriate amount of time. The horrific shock to my tastebuds was enough to make me feel ill at the sight, smell and thought of wine for many years after. An unthinkable tsunami of dread would continue to arise in my stomach and mind as I envisioned the consumption of such an awful, foul tasting drink. However, as you may be aware, our tastebuds change over time and it is because of this that I have now developed a deep appreciation and understanding of the various styles and subtleties of wines from all around the world.

I am excited to share my passion, understanding and knowledge of all things wine and I will do my best to provide information, in such a way, that allows you to make a more educated decision on your next wine purchase.
