We journeyed to Tasmania last month to meet Ed Carr, Chief Winemaker at House of Arras, on a quest to discover the secret to Australia’s preeminent sparkling wine.
For those unfamiliar with the brand, House of Arras is Australia’s most awarded sparkling wine producer, and a James Halliday favourite, registering three excellent scores in the 2018 Halliday Wine Companion. Both Halliday and Tyson Stelzer are staunch supporters of Tasmanian sparkling, recognising the region as the best outside of Champagne for sparkling wine production.
While there are a handful of notable producers, House of Arras, under the skilful eye of Ed Carr has consistently produced exceptional wines, receiving just shy of 100 awards and gaining international recognition for their superb length and complexity of character.
