After years of directing design teams for brands such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Levi’s, Andrew Payne began General Knot & Co. in the Fall of 2010 with the desire to combine a passion for design with an unyielding commitment to bringing conscientious quality manufacturing back to the United States. Learning the finer points of design and quality were great benefits of working said corporations, but moving manufacturing overseas was not necessarily one of them.
GK&Co only uses only deadstock or vintage fabrics meaning each design is in limited quantities, uniquely finite and never to be repeated. Offering a range of ties, bow ties, pockets and belts the brand is developing a range of quality products like no other. The fabrics they source range from plain to outright crazy, however nothing is ‘unwearable’ and I found myself piecing together outfits just scrolling through the online store. It’s refreshing to see a brand take a unique view on the mens accessory market, sourcing great fabrics and doing things a little differently. Sure, there will always be a place for the Drake’s 7-fold, however never rule out the other guy, because right now the ‘other’ guy is producing some pretty amazing ties for a great price.
