New York City is the home of the ‘flagship’ store for many brands, but there was one in particular we were keen to check out when we landed. Ernest Alexander NYC was voted GQ’s Best New Men’s Designer in America last year and across their premium accessories, shirting and outerwear it’s easy to see why.
Ernest Alexander started their operation with a simple Messenger Bag and have since grown their offering to include a beautiful range of sleeves, briefcases, laptop bags, suit bags and duffels. Whilst bags are no doubt the brand’s backbone I was was just as impressed with their outwear, blending ‘street’ design and core menswear aspects seamlessly. I was specifically enamoured with the limited edition Eli Bomber jacket, one of 20 that was hanging on the rack in store. The jacket is cut from a specially treated, natural lamb skin giving it a unique rubberised effect, off the rack it fit beautifully and had the AUD not been so horrible I probably would have left the store with it.
What I was most impressed with however was the fact that 100% of their range is produced in the U.S.A, most within a 1-mile radius of their New York City design studio. The brand is dedicated to supporting the local garment district, which is noble approach to the industry. Located at 98 Thompson St Soho, Ernest Alexander NYC is born and bred in New York and certainly worth a visit next time you’re in town.
