Dyson V6 Absolute Vacuum

Interestingly we don’t hear the name James Dyson as much as we hear that of Steve Jobs or Jonathan Ive, but I’m convinced he’s one the most underrated inventors to walk the earth. Even before the outrageously successful air blade, which now graces 90% of commercial bathrooms worldwide, Dyason was blowing minds (literally) with groundbreaking products like his Air Multiplyer. Most people however, know him for his vacuum cleaners, which are undeniably in a class of their own.

Consider owning a vacuum cleaner that you’re actually excited to use – it’s a fascinating concept. What’s even more fascinating, is using a Dyson vacuum cleaner, on a carpet that you’ve been previously cleaning with a normal vacuum – what comes out is truly astonishing. On that, it’s time to introduce the Dyson V6 Absolute Handstick Vacuum that we’ve spent the last week trialling.

I spent some time on the track in a Porsche GT3 a couple of weeks ago, and I was discussing it with a friend on the weekend, describing it as a product that was perfectly engineered to go around a track. In many ways, the Dyson V6 is exactly like the GT3. The ultimate balance of performance, weight and build quality (and also designed to make a mockery of its competition!). The Absolute V6, named after the motor that powers it, boasts a number of attachments, as well as an additional brush roll designed for hardwood floors and a HEPA filter – the first Dyson stick to include one. The HEPA Filter ensures air leaving the machine is cleaner than the air you breathe.

With the V6 coming in at just 2.3kg, and utilising a multi-directional head, the manoeuvrability is excellent. The various attachments clip into place soundly, the bin empties quickly and hygienically, and the wall mountable docking station provides an easy storage solution. Charging time for the unit is around 3 hours and provides up to 20 minutes of suction. It’s not really enough to get your vacuuming groove on, but I suspect the V6 is designed to accompany one of the brand’s larger vacuums as a quick cleaning solution, rather than a total household one.

The Dyson V6 Absolute is a pricy piece of kit, you can’t argue that. But like James Dyson’s other inventions, you also can’t argue with the performance or customer satisfaction.
