After announcing that he’d prefer to slash his wrists than play James Bond in the 25th instalment of the franchise, multiple sources have confirmed that Daniel Craig will return to the big screen with a licence to kill.
During the press tour for Spectre in 2015, the British actor said he wanted to move on and speculated that his return to the character would “be for the money” and if the 2016 rumours of US$150 million (over two films) hits the mark then he’s set to make a pretty penny.
Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is said to have secured Daniel Craig following years of speculation over a replacement and that there’s “talking around” Adele to return for the theme song. The partnership made 2012’s Skyfall the most profitable Bond (and Sony Production) ever with takings of US$1.2 billion and earned Adele multiple awards.
“Its taken time but Daniel has come around and the strong consensus in the Bond offices is that Mr Craig is 007 again,” they said, adding “signs are positive” that Adele would join the project, too.
The U.K.’s Mirror reported that Daniel Craig decided to stay on after hearing of the wealth of British talent eyed to replace him. Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, James Norton and Aidan Turner were among the rumoured contenders.
According to the Telegraph, Nolan is also being eyed to direct the next film. The Academy Award-winning director, who also helmed Warner Bros.‘ “Dark Knight” trilogy, has been in talks with producers but sounded reluctant to step in for Sam Mendes, who directed “Skyfall” and “Spectre.”
“I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson over the years,” Nolan recently told Playboy. “I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it. Maybe one day that would work out. You’d have to be needed if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you. And they’re getting along very well.”
“Skyfall” and “Spectre” screenwriter John Logan is also said to be involved in the upcoming project, and reports suggest that Bond 25 will start filming in 2018.
