Crane Brothers Store + Gubb and Mackie Shoot

When we found out we were off to Wellington for the weekend our first point of call was a trip to the Crane Brothers boutique.

For those a tad confused with the title, Murray Crane owns and retails two brands – Crane Brothers (formal suiting) and Gubb & Mackie (everyday menswear). All Crane Brothers ‘ready to wear’ stock hangs in the store unfinished. This allows the buyer to specify exactly what length and finish they want on all hems, sleeves and buttons. The Gubb & Mackie range is more relaxed, featuring contemporary cuts, materials and prints, offering occasional menswear that can be separated and worn in both semi-formal and casual situations.

The store is a mecca of fantastic menswear and stylish accessories including fragrances, tie pins, combs, shoes, braces and a spread of lovely Drake’s ties and pochettes (two of which featured in our shoot below).

With the sun shining and the Wellington waterfront only a short stroll away we decided to get nautical with a Navy Gubb & Mackie jacket and white shirt, paired with a red Drake’s tie and pattern pochette, which we then dressed down by removing the tie and adding a bolder pochette.
