Clive Owen Returns to BMW Films

In 2001 BMW Films launched The Hire, a web video series starring Clive Owen as ‘The Driver’, with the aim to showcase a range of BMW vehicles. Last week The Hire returned to the internet with The Escape, again starring Clive Owen along a star-studded cast including Jon Bernthal, Dakota Fanning and Vera Farmiga, directed by Neill Blomkamp.

Previous installments of The Hire featured Owen alongside Forest Whitaker, Mickey Rourke, Adriana Lima, Madonna, Don Cheadle, Ray Liotta and Danny Trejo with direction by Tony Scott, John Woo, Guy Ritchie, Ang Lee and Alejandro González Iñárritu.

“On a cost-per-minute basis, it was pretty close to a major feature-film territory,” Blomkamp said of his experience directing The Escape.

The Escape showcases BMW’s new six-cylinder turbo 540i driven by Clive Owen amongst a swarm of police cars, gunfire and bad guys. As far as advertising goes, it’s about as good as it gets.
