A sophisticated whisky driven by delicate spice notes with subtle sweetness gliding by throughout the experience.
The Bunnahabhain distillery is located in the Islay region of Scotland famed for producing powerful smoky drams such as Laphroaig and Lagavulin. But here we have a distillery that swims against the tide.
Bunnahabhain 18 gifts us a slick and elegant dram devoid of those elements. Truly one for the ages!
Immediately there is pepper and cinnamon taking control with hints of honey providing an excellent balance.
There is a strong sherry influence. Also cardamon and cloves combining in an eternal dance with soft honey undertones ending with the oak coming to the fore.
Finish (After Taste)
Refined oak and cinnamon control the finish with a touch of sweetness which decimates quickly.
Overall, Bunnahabhain 18 is a spectacular dram that I will definitely be going back to. However, if you are new to whiskies its probably not for you. Once you get better acquainted with the golden nectar it is one of the best drams you could have!
