Mercedes-Benz proved to have the main attraction at this years New York Motor Show stopping traffic with the new Mercedes CLA 45 AMG. Lucky for us the range topping CLA is set to land on Australian shores next month and starts at a very achievable $74,900 which is half the price of the C63 AMG. Before the release of the A45 and the CLA 45 AMG performance couldn’t be purchased brand new for under $100k, thus opening the market considerably for Mercedes-Benz in Australia.
Arriving as the sedan companion to the A45 hatch, the new model will be offered in three variants, CLA 200, CLA 250 Sport and top-shelf CLA 45 AMG which boasts 360bhp and sprints from 0-100 in 4.6 seconds. Where previous AMG models have always featured brutish V8, the A and CLA both feature a 265kw 2.0l turbo charged engine – the most powerful production four cylinder engine in the world.
A host of features are standard on the whole CLA range including 18-inch wheels, Becker Map Pilot Navigation, and a reversing camera. The 250 Sport gets heated electric leather sports seats with memory function and AMG styling and the AMG gains the AMG driver’s package, AMG night package, AMG performance steering wheel, COMAND navigation and a Harmon Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system as standard.
The CLA will be a serious game changer in the luxury car market in Australia and understandably will go like hotcakes. We can’t wait to drive it – stay tuned for more!
