World of Whisky Double Bay
On Saturday TVG visited Australia’s only specialist Whisky store, suitably located in Sydney’s Double Bay where the rare whiskys matched the rare automobiles. The store is beautiful, albiet a little hard to find (it’s inside the Cosmopolitan Centre). The products speak for themselves, around 350 bottles adorning 3 shelves that line both sides of the store. It’s a very useful space with a tasting table in the centre that can be expanded to accomodate groups when the store is running their ‘masterclasses’. World of Whisky promotes a very handy try before you buy concept and have on hand more than 70 whiskys available for the customer to partake of pre purchase which we think is a lovely touch.
We met with one of the store’s directors Ivan, a supremely knowledgable and passionate man regarding everything whisky related (including its spelling!) and had a chat about the upcoming 2012 Whisky Show presented by World of Whisky. The event, which is scheduled to run on the 20th and 21st of July will feature 17 exhibitors and over 150 different types of whisky from around the world. Naturally, TVG will be there to cover the event and we’re very keen to promote some of our Australian whisky makers – as is Ivan, through the Australasian Whisky awards which will be judged at the event.
Ivan showed us some unique bottles that only he stocks and told us about some of his regular customers, often on hand to drop $10,000 in a single purchase. Finally Ivan delivered the line, “We’re not in the whisky business, we’re selling an aspirational lifestyle” and we knew TVG and World of Whisky were a match made in heaven. We left the store excited, not only for the upcoming event but for what the future may hold for our two brands which couldn’t be more perfectly aligned.
