TOPMAN OPENS IN SYDNEY
After years of waiting Sydney residents finally get a taste of British retail giant Topshop/TOPMAN which opens to the public today. The store finds its home in the former Gowings building on George St in the heart of the CBD in the new QT Hotel development. TVG were invited to have a drink and a look around last night with a tonne of other faux celebrities and more hipsters than I’ve ever seen in one place at the one time ever. The store looks good but is heavily focused on females with only the top floor out of a total 4 catering to men. Essentially you could be in a Topman store anywhere in the world but it’s a formula that has obviously worked so they’ve stuck with it and brought the same look to Sydney.
Topman offers a range of casual wear and ‘formal’ wear and it’s very competitively priced. We saw a bunch of colourful short sleeved shirts and 5 panel caps for hot sunny days followed by dressier options for work or formal occasions. Also on offer is a plethora of accessories including jewellery, wallets, bags, hats, shoes, belts and practically anything else you could possibly think of. You have to hand it to them, they’ve got a great mix of stuff – if you wanted you could go in and buy an entire wardrobe. We couldn’t help wondering if, just like everything on offer in General Pants, these items would be seen on the back of every male in Australia very quickly – if your style is striving to be individual than it’s probably not the place for you. In saying that it’s great to see men have another staple fashion option in Sydney offering a range of clothes for every occasion. As the rest of Sydney goes TOPMAN delivers superb value but we’d recommend waiting a few weeks until the hype dies down before heading in for a look.
